Incredibly divine location for a harbourview picnic with friends. Very quick walk down the street from bus stop. Lovely gardens. Toilets on site. The mansion is divine (sadly very run down) but definitely worth going inside. Even if it’s closed, still have a picnic on site. It’s like having a holiday in the city for a day - and it will cheer you up immensely πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ€©πŸ€©πŸ€©πŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸΎπŸΎπŸΎπŸŒΏπŸͺ΄πŸŒ³πŸ•πŸ•πŸ•

A beautiful historic home with spectacular views across Shark Island, Milk Beach and Sydney Harbour. The house is unfurnished, but the atmosphere is palpable. If you can, attend a tour with #National Parks and Wildlife or #Woollahra Historical and Heritage Society, to get the history of the building and grounds.

You can't go in to the house except on special occasions, but the gardens are lovely and worth exploring. Especially nice is the hermitage foreshore walk, with its hidden coves and beaches. Absolutely essential exploring with wonderful views.

Strickland House is an old colonial mansion built in the 1850s and first occupied by Sydney's second mayor. It is built on a hill and commands wonderful views over Sydney Harbour and even has a secluded beach beneath. Sadly, it's only open once a year to visitors which isn't correct and that policy needs to be changed.
