I can’t recommend Sal’s Surf School enough! I’ve just signed up for another term because I loved it so much—not just because I’ve actually made progress (which I didn’t think was possible!), but because the community Sal has built is incredible.

As a Canadian who had never surfed before, trying a new sport as an adult—especially after having two babies in two years—felt so intimidating. But from the very first lesson, everyone made me feel welcome and completely supported.

Ronnie is amazing—kind, patient, and always encouraging. Even if I spend most of the lesson falling off the board, he somehow makes me feel like I’ve nailed it. And Sal? Her energy is absolutely infectious! She’s done such a fantastic job of creating a space where you feel comfortable, no matter your level.

If you’ve been on the fence about learning to surf, stop overthinking it—this is the perfect place to start. You’ll love it!

Started with an adults day camp including surf lesson, lunch and reformer pilates session- hooked from there! Have done multiple terms of lessons and a ladies surf weekend away and can't see myself stopping any time soon.

Sal and her team are encouraging, positive and motivating. Which gives anyone in the water with them a great sense of confidence. Personally have progressed so much with my surfing with Sal and her team's support. Can't wait for my kids to be old enough for lessons as well 😊

What a great family activity. None of us had been on a board before and all 5 of us got up by the end of the lesson.

All equipment was provided including a rashie (shirt) and sunscreen. Just turn up with your swim suit and a towel.

Sal made the lesson safe and informative. She is particularly good with kids. Our group was aged from 9 to adults. Everyone enjoyed the experience. She even went out of her way to give the 4 year old on our group (who was not a student) a special ride on the surfboard with her. What a happy child!

Safe and great value for money. Now to invest in our own boards to continue the learning.

Came to Umina for a week and saw kids doing surfing lessons. Looked further into and saw the had a 6hr holiday camp so I booked my son in. He absolutely loved in and his skill level improved after one day. Booked him in again for a group lesson and can already see the benefit.

Sal and her team are awesome and provide excellent instructions. Would definitely consider making the trip from Sydney for more holiday camps. Thanks Sal for a great week.

Our kids and friends kids did a 1.5 hour private lesson at Sal’s Surf School and it was amazing. 2 of the kids were confident/strong swimmers and the other 2 not so strong. Zig, the coach, took great care the of not so strong swimmers but still had the kids out the back and catching waves. Sal’s Surf School made it a great experience for all the kids.

I did the Adult Surf Camp and it was amazing! The ratio with the coaches was great (5:1) which meant that you didn’t have any downtime (if you didn’t want any) and could catch as many waves as you wanted to. Sal and Lochy were fantastic - very knowledgeable, helpful and fun to spend the day with. The video feedback portion of the day was so constructive! And the pilates portion felt amazing after the 2 hrs of surfing. All in all, highly recommended - such a great day. I will definitely book in with Sal again.
