Been a fed member for about 7 years (since I became a teacher) - had two times I required support was told nothing could be done, I handled the situation myself with a positive outcome.
Covid happened, I felt no support - regardless of your opinion of the mandates, there was pressure coming from NSWTF for the mandate rather than a stand for member rights. This made me want to leave. Given being a union supporter, I stayed.
Finally the nail in the coffin, NSWTF releasing a statement regarding a war on the other side of the world while staying silent on matters impacting teachers. I sent an email to NSWTF stating there is no business of a teachers industrial union to have any position in a political conflict that does not involve Australia. Does nothing but create division among members. On this note I cancelled my membership and joined TPAN red union. Others will say "they aren't a union". Well... I am paying a professional body for legal coverage and legal representation - something a union should be providing. Good enough for me. I don't want the politics, just a union to cover me legally.

My exp with NSWTF in a nutshell - gives you a good feeling of being part of a union and feeling of being protected... up until you actually have an issue. This is my honest opinion given my experience as a member. Other reviews speak volumes.

This is the perfect venue for any small to medium sized events- lectures, seminars, presentations etc. I have attended SIG - the seminar organized by ASM, Australian Society for Microbiology. The presentations were very informative and well delivered.

I was a member for over 20 years. Federation has entirely lost its way. It has spent all its time getting lost in foolish ideology and left its members drowning in terrible working conditions and bad administration. It is not the Union that my father was a proud rep for. And I can’t see it ever changing now. I’ve given this 3 stars because the phone service was excellent but the Union needs a clean out from the top down. They should stop concerning themselves with climate change and fringe identity politics and fight the government for the welfare of teachers. Otherwise public education will dwindle further than it already has.

Absolutely disgusting group of people! Antisemites, terrorist supporters/enablers with absolutely no respect nor value towards our Australian multi cultural society and the impact their decisions and behaviour has on teachers and children! Shame shame shame

Like waiting at Centrelink. They only have 6 PSO and 6 people answering the phones to put you through to PSO (professional support). Makes one wonder why 52K teachers pay 600 dollars a year and where that money goes? Perhaps this is the reason there is a teacher shortage.

Certainly not one of the better unions today with obvious affiliations and flaws. Largely due to its unwillingness to fight for teachers rights. NESA, EPAC, PES OCG need to be inline with society and its problems in schools and less to do with buck passing to each other. Defunding will give teachers and your kids hope.
