The Goulburn Rail Hertiage Centre is truly a volunteer based attraction. My wife and I can't praise the guided tour and the tour guide enough. Our guide John has been apart of the operation there since the 80's so he had alot of valuable knowledge. Being a Fitter and Turner by trade and an avid fan of heritage railways it was great to actually see through the roundhouse, the turntable operating during a shunt, look around the machine shop and Blacksmiths shop it in all its realistic glory. There is a very well presented display of information relating to the Goulburn Railway workshops showing historical items and photos of the workshops and the great poeple that worked in them. Stopping there for the day was money well spent.

A great selection of old trains from different time periods. Even got to see a working one visit us and go for a spin on the turntable. The staff there are very knowledgeable

What an amazing experience!

It’s the first time we visited a railway museum. The guided tour is a must-do! Stan is very knowledgeable and kind with explanation. Very patient when I was translating for my parents. This yard is still in service and we happened to encounter an engine coming in! Had the chance to ride in the engine while it’s turning on the turning plate.

Visited the Goulburn Railway Heritage Centre yesterday with friends. Special thanks to Engineer Lorne for showing us around and even delaying lunch. Goulburn Railway Depot is the largest heritage site in New South Wales and showcases the historical transition from steam locomotives to diesel locomotives. A range of locomotives, rolling stock and railway memorabilia are on display. Visit the Goulburn Railway Heritage Centre and enjoy a journey back in time to experience one of Goulburn's most treasured historical working relics - the Goulburn Railway Depot. Built in 1928 and still in operation today, this 42-lane, 90-foot turntable circular depot is an important part of the city's history. In recent years, a group of enthusiastic railway volunteers have formed the Goulburn Railway Depot Preservation Society, dedicated to keeping Goulburn's rich railway story alive. We love this place and will bring other friends here to visit. Thank you Engineer Lorne.

best rail museum in Australia. There's heaps to see and heaps to read and its more hands on than any other museum like it. Definitely worth the drive up from Canberra or down from Sydney.

Got a brilliant tour and history lesson about these locomotives from one of the friendly volunteers. Some are beautifully restored and others are succumbing to the elements. It's not cleanly curated like a museum, more like a work in progress train restoration project, so set your expectations accordingly. I thought it adds to the charm.
