My son attended this day care and my experience with this day care was terrible. They declined to take my son because my emergency contact was from Tamworth, not living in Gunnedah, when I enrolled him this was not an issue, it all came about because of the Optus Outage. All my next of kin contacts are also with Optus, so the incident was beyond my control.
Without giving me time to arrange an emergency contact, they immediately refused to take him, leaving me with no time to make plans for work. I work an hour away, and my emergency contact is also an hour away from Gunnedah. The issue was that they could not call me, so instead of attributing the problem to the one-time Optus issue, it was placed on me for not being able to accept phone calls. It is perplexing why the day care did not have a disaster plan in place for incidents like this. They could have requested another emergency contact before I dropped off my son, just in case. It is exceptionally challenging for a single parent to work without any family support, and then to have my son refused because the next of kin lives in the next town is unjust. At the very least, they could have allowed me the opportunity to provide another next of kin. As a result of this, I have missed out on a day's pay leading up to Christmas and let my work down. This has also disrupted my son as I need to find another preschool provider. This type of service should not be discriminatory.
