Over the years I have always experienced very caring care at this hospital. Yesterday I was in dire straights with a severe chest infection, which my GP had been treating for 5 days without success. I was admitted to the E D at 11.13 am after seeing GP Access at 10.30 am. The Doctors and nurses sorted me out by 2.30pm. Thankyou to them I am getting better and will probably enjoy my family Christmas. Thanks a million, Nurse Laura and Dr Abdul & Merry Christmas!

Worst emergency services in the hospital & i believe one of the worst customer service hospitals in the world. I had gone to ED for somet simple issue, same thing happened a week earlier where John Hunter nurse reviewed, attended & released in an hour, whereas in Mater the nurses are incapable to treat, pretty poor behaviour & almost waited 7 hours before being attended by some doctor.

The management seriously needs to review its operations and medical staff services. I think John hunter is far better, matured & great sympathy with patients too.

Mater has fall down from its reputation gradually & it feels to be one of most worst hospitals in the region.

Took someone in after a minor car accident. Waited 13 hours just for them to tell us precisely nothing just ‘scans came back all clear’ and sent us home. No concussion test, nothing other than an X-ray for the physical damages. After visiting a GP a week after, we were told there was soft tissue damage and a concussion that went untreated.
ER staff communicated next to nothing to us, did nothing for flesh wounds (not even a clean or a bandage?). Wasn’t offered any food or a pillow, had to ask for water. Ignored for 3 hours at a time while he was wincing in pain.

Transferred to Mental Health unit after the 12 hour mark , no ER staff told us anything about his condition. MH staff told us to take a seat while he got us a blanket, only to immediately go to his office and scroll on his phone with his feet up. Gave up and left after that. A dangerous practice.

Especially upset after I called the ER prior to see if they even had a space for us and if they took these kinds of situation. Staff that answered said ‘the answer is yes’ then hung up on me as I was halfway through a sentence explaining the situation.

Waited 7 hours for treatment after a redback spider bite. Only to be sent home at 1am with pain killers (endone) that I explained weren’t working. The arrogant doctor stated that he didn’t want to waste resources on me because it had been 48 hours since the bite. The bite was so severe that it took 2 weeks to get over. Disgusting treatment and a sad reflection of our medical system.

A great hospital with fantastic nursing staff looking after my sick Mum at the moment. But they are so overworked and short staffed due to the NSW state government. Please contact your local State Member & Minister to complain to try help increase safe staffing levels! And use the QR code to sign the Nurse's petition 🙏

To the Calvary Mater Newcastle executive management and staff: Please know that people's lives and well-being come before everything else. You all know that I experienced medical negligence at your hospital in July 2024, and now, 6 months after it, you had put through more care negligence and don't even have the mercy to treat us, my husband and myself, with the respect and care we deserve and need. I just had a masectomy done last week and it was today, 22nd of January, when your most senior nurse decided that it was OK to hang up the phone leaving us with NO CONTACT at the hospital where I'm supposed to attend to be treated for breast cancer and any further recurrence. As my husband asked Marissa Ledlin today, what else does it need to happen to me at your hospital for anyone there to take action and provide the health-care services that I need? While I'm writing to review I feel hopeless knowing that I can't afford to go anywhere in Newcastle to get the help I need to overcome breast cancer and the trauma that all the medical negligences I've been through since I became your patient. Your lack of professionalism and due diligence have destroyed our lives, and atm, I don't longer feel like living anymore. I hope that you will never ever put anyone else in the position you has put us through

I arrived by ambulance with AF, service was excellent, staff efficient and personable. Treated successfully and was able to go home later that night! Could not speak highly enough of my experience.
