I recently stayed at the Baden-Powell Scout Activity Centre in Sydney, and while I expected modest accommodations due to its
nature, I was quite disappointed by the overall condition. The bathroom facilities in particular were far from what I would consider acceptable. The first bathroom I stayed in as a leader was incredibly filthy, especially under the toilet seat that had broken fixtures and it slid backwards when I sat on it due to the lubrication made up of old urine under the top of the seat. I was lucky I only got a fright and didn't fall off and fracture something being an older person. The girls were horrified with the general lack of hygiene. It was clear that regular cleaning was not a priority, which made the stay uncomfortable from the start.
More concerning however, was the unsafe environment which made me uneasy, especially as it hosts young groups and families.
While physical facilities were a concern my main issue was the public access to our dorm rooms. After showering early on the first morning l returned to the bathroom to find someone in the toilet l said hello to no response thinking it was one of the girls in my care but when I returned upstairs all my girls were in bed. I returned to the bathroom and the intruder had gone. I checked the back door to see if it was unlocked or accessible from outside, no it required a tap disc or a code. I walked around to the back of the facility and discovered a sign saying "MENS TOILETS". In the meantime two of the girls in my care were approached by two men in the bathroom and told that they shouldn't be in there as it was the only men's facility available!
Now it was clear as to why there was a pair of men's underpants on the floor of the bathroom scrunched in the corner.
A change of accommodation was quickly made, we packed up and moved into the boy's dorm which they packed up and moved out of for us. We considered it safer that we were all in the main building and abandoned our inappropriate rooms above the men's toilets and showers. Obviously there was lack of communication regarding the suitability of these facilities for teenaged girls. After our second and last night we were having a quick breakfast before departure, sitting on chairs at tables in the main hall using all of our own utensils when the Facilities
co-ordinator walked in and said 'What do you think you're doing in here?" Our Leader explained we were having breakfast before we left. To which the co-ordinator replied " I've got people due in here now". We immediately packed up the chairs and were told to leave the two tables up by the co-ordinator and we drove off the premises at 0800hrs.
While the location is great for Scout activities, the management seriously needs to address cleanliness, staff communication skills and safety concerns. Until improvements are made , I would not recommend this place. I also would not be interested in changing my review of my personal experience over these two nights.

Stayed there for a weekend a couple of times for a martial arts grading. Rooms are basic (bunk bed, toilet, shower) but the grounds are BEAUTIFUL!!! great Bush setting with walking trails and lots of wild bird life (including wild turkeys roaming around). Well equipped commercial kitchen and little huts and rotunda around to have private lunches or group meetings

The activities there such as the high ropes and flying fox were thrilling, especially the leap of faith. The food was okay, and the rooms were well kept. My only problem is that there were cobwebs and insects on the curtains which made it difficult for many of us to move them or sleep under them. The staff were very kind so that was pretty nice.
