If you're an Aboriginal from outside the Awabakal area (even if your born on Awabakal land), and live on Awabakal land and need support, don't even try to become a member with this racist, greedy, corporate mob. They won't acknowledge you, but they'll put you through the 100'th degree and then won't accept you and reject you after weeks, months, years even of trying to communicate with them without rhyme or reason and won't table your application again (even when you're completely accepted by the other Awabakal elders and invited to their activities, the Awabakal board and corporates won't allow it)... WHY is it so hard Awabakal to communicate with your head office and anyone there or in your land council (you have phones but they don't answer, and not even an answering machine, just a beep beep and heaven forbid if you ask for a call back or their email ... Be prepared for it not to be acknowledged)?... When places like Mindaribba in Maitland and other "PROFESSIONALLY" run offices up in Queensland accept outside Aboriginals with no problem like they did with my Aunty and Uncle (who weren't from their area, born Aboriginal somewhere else, but accepted without question none the less), even gave them same day membership by dropping into their friendly offices... These are certainly just some of the many bad experiences you'll have with Awabakal if you try to become a member with them (and even if you are a member), highly advise not to even bother with them because they "Just Don't Care" and that's highly disappointing for a so called Aboriginal support group!
