I rate this building highly not for its function now but for its original use.
In 1991, as part of a university diploma in local history, I completed a heritage study of this quaint, but then dilapidated former Marrickville
Council Chamber. This was originally in the grounds of Marrickville Public School. Few know that this building, seemingly well restored, is the fourth oldest such chamber ( a Town Hall) in NSW.
The detail at front of building is truly wonderful. Unfortunately in 1991 this building sat idle, being vandalised periodically until boarded up.
Evidence of interior fires was widespread.
I am delighted that this building has been saved and restored to a
large extent, at least on the exterior. I hope the new proprietors
will treasure it (I believe it is heritage listed) so as a vital part of Marrickville's local history remains for all to enjoy.
