Upon moving to Sydney, I trialed most of the local MMA gyms. Modern Combat was the obvious choice to go with long term.

The community is fantastic, everyone is so friendly. I’ve made some great friends there.

The skill level is also very mixed. It doesn’t matter if you’re a complete beginner or a professional. There are training partners for all.

Zac is a FANTASTIC coach and I love every kickboxing class he runs. His way of explaining and breaking down technique and sharing intricate details is incredibly easy to digest.

Duncan is the funniest coach I’ve ever had. His BJJ white belt classes are filled with laughter and good vibes without straying off the path of productivity and development.

The gym is clean, with very nice modern equipment.

My only concern is that the gym space is rather small. I think that in a couple of years, there will need to be some sort of expansion to accommodate full sized classes and allow space for people to mingle and roam off the mats during while waiting for their classes

My son Grayson joined a few weeks ago and he loves it. He looks forward to every Monday and Wednesday afternoons to train with his instructor Tom. The classes are small and the kids get great tuition on a variety of skills. Tom is an excellent instructor and is very good with the kids mixing disciplined skills work with games that keep the kids engaged.

This is my 3rd jiu jitsu gym over 7 years and I love training here! Convenient location with free street parking close by (or park at Woolworths). Clean space and good soize. Zac and Duncan are engaging and creative instructors and the classes are always fun. The people are friendly and there’s a real emphasis on safety. Weather you’re a black belt or a mere mortal, I highly recommend you test your might and train at modern Kombat.

Great session with Zac and the Gang. Great spread of belts so you can be humbled with higher belts and still choke blue belts at the same time. Innovative approach and Zac is a student of martial arts and is obviously studying deep and broadly. Shout out to Silvia for always bringing good energy too!

Very inclusive and welcoming jiu-jitsu gym. The team is very friendly and the women’s community is epic. Love training there, it’s clean, doesn’t smell like most gyms and the coaches and higher belts are creating a very safe environment for everyone and especially for women. I recommend 💯 if you either want to find a new hobby or if you’re are looking for a new gym to train Bjj.
