The workshops offered by Heartwood Creative are a must! We recently completed the Table Course and had a fantastic time learning from the amazing and knowledgeable instructors - Stuart, Carol & Daren. We got to select the type of wood, cut and shape all the pieces, learn how to sand and produced an amazing looking side table. The instructors are super passionate and knowledgeable. They really took time to explain everything and it really felt like I learned a lot and definitely recommend this experience to everyone!!

Having completed the 8x8 Intro to Woodworking course at Heartwood Creative Woodworking I can highly recommend this course for beginners like me.
The workshop itself is not what I was expecting, it looks like a design studio filled with amazing hand tools and prints of student work creating a really nice atmosphere. There seemed to be no end of tools or “jigs” that can be used, so I guess it’s true that for every job etc.
My teachers, Stuart (the owner) and Ben are both professional teachers and it shows. They were very encouraging and their skill and passion for all things woodworking is inspiring. I love the projects I made and have already signed up for my next course.

I recently purchased a “MyBench” workbench from Stuart and Carol at Heartwood Creative Woodworking and couldn’t be happier with the result.

The bench is so well made with such attention to detail that it looked like a piece of fine furniture once it was delivered and set up in my garage. I was initially a bit hesitant to use it because it looked so good!

It has the perfect balance of rock-solid stability, ease of transport (knock-down construction) and functionality. The design has been extremely well thought out - sliding deadman, split Roubo top with centre insert which flips to provide a planing stop, dog holes for bench accessories, an 80mm thick top which is beefy but still lets you clamp to it. The beech LVL construction means the surfaces are dead flat and won’t move with changes in humidity (which caused the retirement of my previous bench).

Stuart installed the HNT Gordon face and tail vices for me. These are also fantastic pieces of engineering.

Stuart and Carol were so nice to deal with and I was kept up-to-date throughout the construction of the bench. It has become the new heart of my workshop and changed the way I work.

There's some experiences in life that we know we'll never forget. The MyBench course with Heartwood is one of those. The bench is designed so perfectly, from dog holes, sliding deadman, flush front, to heavy and solid top and legs. You can just tell the amount of thought and functionality Stuart has put into this bench.
But what makes this bench extra special is that you get to build it. I, along with Stuart's help, built this bench, and that yields an unmeasurable amount of bliss. I'm so happy with this bench, and one day, I will make great furniture and instruments with it. Thank you Heartwood 🙂

Stuart and Carol were my instructors for the 2 day table-making workshop; they are both excellent and very patient teachers and their passion always evident. The class was relaxed and well paced; the workshop professionally laid out, organized, incredibly clean and attention to safety paramount. I'm a complete novice; I have never handled a band saw, table saw, or router before and was a little intimidated when I first saw all the equipment . But Stuart and Carol have gone to great lengths to have all safety measures in place, and supervised the whole time. I felt incredibly safe and thrilled to learn the use of the power tools. I enjoyed learning about wood and how it behaves, right down to honing my sanding skills (Carol is a strict taskmaster there!). I'm proud of what I achieved in those 2 days; my little table is a work of art thanks to Stuart's skill in designing it and experience in his craft. The term courses are in demand so I am on the waiting list of those wanting to learn more. I recommend Heartwood to anyone, whatever your skill level.

I recently completed the 8x8 Intro to woodworking course with Darren and Rhys. This was hands down, one of the most enjoyable personal development classes I have done. Both Rhys and Darren are excellent instructors who clearly have a passion for their craft but also passion and knack for helping others learn it. They took the time to explain things, gave us opportunity to experiment and guided us when we needed it. The tools, machinery and materials were excellent quality and the workshop was clean, tidy and inspiring, making the course as a pleasure. As a complete novice, I thoroughly enjoyed coming each week and was really proud of what I achieved, created and took home on completion. Thanks to Stuart, Carol and the Heartwood Team, I am really looking forward to the follow on course!
