ā€˜Tutu Magic, Twinkle’s First Recital’, a picture book by Rachael Shields, (for children 3-7 years old) is a gorgeous story about a little girl being nervous before her first ballet concert.
What immediately struck me was the beautiful colours, and the wondrous images of stars, rainbows, froth, glitter and butterflies.
The book is so delightful to look at but the underlying message is important too, although handled with a light touch.
Twinkle is heading to the Town Hall for ā€˜the most famous event of the year - The Tiny Tutus Annual Ballet Recital!’ The little girl’s tummy feels a bit ā€˜fluttery’ but mummy explains that the butterflies will soon fly away. And by the end of the story Twinkle is brave and proud.
This treasure of a text would be a great gift for any small child a little apprehensive about any kind of public performance. Highly recommended! And if I had woken up to its bright shing pages on Xmas morning, I would have been full of happiness.

ā€˜Tutu Magic’ by Rachael Shields is a well-written children’s picture book with a beautiful message for young children. Rachael has designed the most wonderfully bright and colourful illustrations that keep the book fun for kids. She has even thought about keeping the book interactive with little images to find and count along the way. I also loved the colouring and activity book that complemented the story and illustrations perfectly!
Overall the book is very thoughtfully put together and story is very uplifting and encouraging for young ones. Highly recommended!

I loved Tutu Magic - Twinkle's First Recital! What a wonderul job Rachael has done with both the story and illustrations, which are sure to appeal to its target market, young ballerinas. There are so many lovely details in this picture book that will keep children coming back to it time and time again. I particularly love how the story is about nerves and overcoming them, but doesn't lecture or condescend. Tutu Magic - Twinkle's First Recital would make a beautiful birthday or Christmas present for any young ballet dancers in your life. Butterflies, ballerinas, fairies and a shark - what more could you ask for?1 Highly recommend!

'Tutu Magic' Twinkle's First Recital (Children's Picture Book ages 3-7) written and illustrated by Rachael Shields.
This beautifully illustrated children's story is a delight for both children and parents. The story is about Twinkle, a member of the Tuesday Twirlers who is about to dance in her first recital. This book will be helpful to young children who are often shy about performing in public. Rachael Shields handles this cleverly, with Twinkle's mum explaining to her daughter that her nerves are simply butterflies and they will fly away. As Twinkle meets up with her dance teacher and friends she discovers that one by one the butterflies do indeed fly away. The illustrations contain tiny fairy doors as well as appearances by an unusual twirler, Sandy Shark. You can purchase the colouring book of the same name and with Christmas fast approaching I'm certain these books would make the perfect gift for the twirler in your life.
