I don't know anything about the school. But is was a good place as a Special Needs Shelter for many people during Hurricane Milton. While it was my first time and my son's having to go to a shelter. It was much safer for us. All the Volunteers were really good considering the circumstances. I hope the school building didn't suffer much damage.

I have gone to mckeel since pre-k, MAC was amazing the OPPOSITE of MAT . The school is filled with LOTS of uneducated teachers that DONT know how to teach . I can probably teach better than them. I have NO idea how they got their teaching degree. The teachers get you in trouble for no reason at all. For example, my friend got a morning detention for taking a piece of her friends gum .. totally unacceptable. The school has no consideration for the students mental states . They have so much work during the week that’s supposed to “help” them but they have to break their back to get it done and submitted on time . The teachers make up rules that are not even in the handbook, such as “SLANT “ where you will basically get in trouble if your feet aren’t under ur desk , head is on ur table , teacher can’t see your face or if your simply asking them a question that they don’t want to answer . They purposely fail you, favorite other students , harass students until they give them an answer they want . The school is literally filled with basically only white people that are racist , when I say racist I mean white kids screaming the N word in the halls with the teachers doing nothing about it . The school moves too fast , you are only working on a certain unit for less than a week before testing on it. The special ed kids barely get more accommodations and are struggling to keep up , and the whole school is just lowkey filled with weird kids and bad teachers . You have kids that are transferring to mckeel from other schools going back to their old schools because either the work is too hard , too much , or mckeel is switching units too fast . The school is just overall horrible and I would NOT recommend do not come to this dump save urself oms. So glad im leaving this place soon .

As a current student (junior) at the time of writing, this is one of the most INCOMPETENT schools i've been to. While yes, the classes and education generally are above average and often times fantastic, the administration and the way this school is ran leaves much to be desired. Schedules have been getting worse and worse, while issues are caused due to a general lack of foresight at best, as a bus already nearly filled has 2 extra stops, making 60 kids attempt to sit on a bus designed for 51 kids. Often times I won't be notified of any changes until a few hours, some times minutes before their effects would be felt. These are just my experiences, and if you'd ask anyone who has graduated recently or is enrolled now, you'd find many more stories from this administration.
In all, this school is fantastic for education, but the administration is very lacking.

By far one of the worst schools I've ever encountered. Every time I have spoken to anyone whether it is the nurse or the office, I have been met with snappy and rude attitudes. My son also has an IEP and it has been a struggle for them to be accommodating despite the numerous efforts I have made and meetings I have had. The struggle has even poured into the teachers treating him poorly. I have spoken to other mothers who have encountered these same issues with MAT. In addition, 10th graders for the longest time were not allowed to drive to school due to their lack of parking. That has been another uphill battle with the school as it creates inconveniences for students to have jobs and parents to drop off and pick up their children at specific times. There is no after school tutoring so the students are left to struggle even more as half of the teachers I've encountered, refuse to make the time to be accommodating.

I recently reached out to the Academy seeking information, but unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. The staff I interacted with were rude and unhelpful, making the process unpleasant. I believe it's essential for customer service to be more accommodating, especially when individuals are seeking information. I hope Mckeel Academy can improve its communication and customer service to provide a more positive experience for potential students.

McKeel didn't have a mandatory mask mandate when most of these reviews were written and the mandate the did have when the schools first opened back up got lifted way before Polk county schools did so I don't know why people are complaining about it. Also the reviews about beds and no blankets was in reference to when it was used for a hurricane shelter from Ian. They tried their best but can only do so much. Be grateful they had a bed for you at all. I am thankful for McKeel especially with the growing population in Polk county and no new schools being built. I don't have to worry about my children's education lacking due to classroom overcrowding.

This is an excellent school. No bullying. Very academic. I cant say enough about how this school helped my son. When he was having trouble with algebra. They have excellent teachers and programs where students can get extra help after school to improve their grades. The students are very good, well behaved young people. This is the way ALL schools should be. No bs. No bullying and have measures in place that knock that in the bud right off. Students look out for each other. Nothing like what goes on in public schools.
